▪️Exhibition dates: 29.05-27.09.2026

On 29 May 2026, the OP ENHEIM Gallery will open the exhibition Vitiligo Potatoes / 白癜风土豆, presenting the result of an artistic dialogue between the Pole Andrzej Wasilewski and the Chinese artist Yang Yifan. The project emerges from their cross-cultural collaboration, bringing together two distinct traditions, geographies and ways of thinking about the relationship between humans, nature and civilization. The exhibition also marks the first presentation of Yang Yifan’s work in Poland.

 __________

The eponymous “potato vitiligo” – a striking, almost absurd resemblance between the tuber’s skin and human skin affected by the disease – became the starting point for their dialogue: on the one hand, about dualism in the context of nature and civilization, and on the other, about the interweaving of opposites into a unified whole.

Through installations, multimedia works, photographs and other diverse artistic forms, the artists materialize the tension between “chaos and order” – central to the exhibition – through a series of seemingly contradictory concepts:
– nature and civilization / ultra-modern cities and pristine nature
– West and East / Western dualism and Taoist thought
– original and copy / above and below
– light and darkness

Within the narrative they construct, based on the Chinese legend of the omnipresent chaos Hundun, the artists assume the roles of two rulers of the seas: Yang Yifan, who lives in southern China, becomes Shu, while Andrzej Wasilewski, working in northern Europe, represents Hu. The chaos of Hundun signifies a state of undifferentiated unity, reflected in the juxtaposition of opposites throughout the exhibition: the organic and the inorganic, nature and civilization. Shu and Hu, “repairing” Hundun out of “kindness,” hollow out seven orifices in him so that he may become human – to eat, hear, speak and feel – thereby bringing about his annihilation.

The exhibition leads the viewer through a world in which the boundaries between nature and technology, East and West, or “light” and “darkness” are not fixed, but constantly interpenetrate. Altogether, it encourages us to perceive reality as a complex network of connections in which opposites can coexist and generate new meanings.

The exhibitio will remain open to the public until 27 September 2026. Admission is free.
