German-Polish Foundation for Cultural Preservation and Monument Protection – Branch in Wrocław

Since 2020, the Oppenheim House in Wrocław has been home to a branch of the German-Polish Foundation for the Preservation of Cultural Monuments (Deutsch-Polnische Stiftung Kulturpflege und Denkmalschutz, abbreviated as DPS). The foundation was involved in the renovation of the tenement house at Solny Square, which has been home to OP ENHEIM since 2018. The rapprochement between the two institutions gave impetus to further cooperation and the establishment of an office in Wrocław, which runs projects promoting the protection of monuments, especially in Lower Silesia, and projects promoting cultural heritage.

One of the flagship projects promoting the protection of historic buildings in the region is the competition “Zabytek – nie zapomnij! / Denkmal – denk mal dran!” (Monument – mention it!), organized by the Association for the Promotion of Silesian Art and Culture (Verein zur Pflege schlesischer Kunst und Kultur) and OP ENHEIM.

The DPS Foundation was established in 2007 in Görlitz by two eminent art historians and conservators, Prof. Andrzej Tomaszewski (1934–2010) and Prof. Gottfried Kiesow (1931–2011). The main goal of the DPS Foundation is to develop and strengthen Polish-German cooperation in the field of conserving architectural monuments that are particularly worth preserving, primarily in Poland, which bear witness to German-Polish and European cultural heritage.
